Frequently Asked Questions
When should I come to Basin Healthcare Center’s Emergency services department versus going to a trauma level emergency room or my primary doctor?
Our medical providers have specialty training and experience in Emergency Medicine. In general, if you have an acute medical problem, and you do not require the assistance of an ambulance, we should be able to provide appropriate medical care with courtesy and excellence. We are not qualified as a trauma level emergency room. Therefore, there are circumstances, such as cardiovascular events, in which patients are better served in a trauma level hospital based facility or in another specialty based facility, and our medical providers make that decision based on the specifics of the medical situation.
Do you prescribe refills for medications written by another physician?
Refills of medication are usually gladly prescribed after an evaluation by the medical provider. However, there are some rare instances when refills may not be prescribed depending on the specific medical situation. Examples may include medications not routinely prescribed by physicians trained in Emergency Medicine and controlled substances requiring triplicate prescriptions.
Who do I contact with questions regarding my bill?
Due to the ever-increasing governmental regulation and billing complexity, billing services are provided by an independent billing corporation. Patients, employers and insurance companies can contact the following number for all billing questions, including itemized statements and payment arrangements:

Do I need to make an appointment?
We do not take appointments. Patients will generally be seen in the order that they arrive on a first-come, first-treated basis. However, we frequently evaluate and treat patients that require urgent evaluation. Patients with potentially serious medical complaints will be seen as quickly as possible regardless of arrival time.
Can I be treated if I don't have medical insurance? How much can I expect to pay for treatment if I do not have medical insurance?
We are happy to treat patients without medical insurance, and we actually prefer direct payment for many reasons. The cost varies widely depending on the services rendered, and it is always less expensive when the payment is made on the same day as the visit due to significant discounts that can be given for prompt payment. An initial evaluation by the physician will be given, and the cost of your visit will depend on level of need/emergency status. Lab tests, xrays, and procedures will be an additional cost.
